Qantas' Melbourne – Christchurch Services Launch in Time for Christmas

Qantas this weekend will launch a new daily service between Melbourne and Christchurch, connecting the two cities with direct flights in time for the Christmas holiday.

Starting Sunday, the new service will meet demand for trans-Tasman travel and are timed for Kiwi passengers to transfer to onward services to Europe via Dubai.

Wes Nobeilus, Qantas Regional General Manager for New Zealand, Pacific Islands, & South America said the new route offers multiple benefits for both Australians and New Zealanders eager to explore both cities.

“It's exciting to see these two cities, who are renowned for their arts, food and culture, become even more connected with this new service. Customers travelling from Melbourne will benefit with easier access to explore the spectacular scenery and adventures that New Zealand's south island offers throughout the year,” said Mr. Nobelius.

“And customers from New Zealand will have more options to experience Melbourne, in addition to onward connections to Dubai, London, and a range of European destinations.”

The daily Melbourne – Christchurch service follows the increase to daily flights between Brisbane – Christchurch in October this year, also timed to connect with Qantas' Asian and US network via Brisbane.

“We're seeing high levels of interest for travel between Australia and Christchurch, which allows us to increase services and better connect Australians and Kiwis ahead of the peak holiday travel season,” added Mr. Nobelius.
