Kumamoto Prefecture: Shirakawa Suigen

Shirakawa Suigen is famous for its water, which was selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan by the Environmental Agency.

The normal temperature of this spring water is 14℃ and 60 tons per minute gushes out into the river Shirakawa, which flows through the center of Kumamoto city.

The spring water can be taken freely and heat-treated water is also available in shops.

n an article of the life information magazine, “Light Up”, the actor, Fumio Watanabe introduced the water and said, “The water of the Shirakawa Suigen is the best water in Japan” and also in his essay, “Tabi-kara Tabi-e (trip to trip)”, he wrote in detail about his wonderful encounter with Shirakawa Suigen.

Pet bottles for the water are available in shops near the Yoshimi Shrine, enshrining a protection god.
